The National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has said that the successful rescue of the remaining 130 abducted St Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools Children in Papiri, Agwara LGA of Niger State was the outcome of sustained resilience, strategic coordination, and joint operations involving Nigeria’s security agencies and international partners.
The freed children arrived at the Niger State Government House at about 1:30pm on Tuesday in seven white colour Hiace Toyota buses under heavy security escort.
The convoy included about 15 armoured personnel carriers and several bulletproof vehicles operated by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army.
Speaking earlier during a brief reception held for the rescued children, the NSA’s representative, Major General Garba Adamu Alaka, detailed how coordinated efforts by the DSS, the Nigerian Army, the Police, and international partners culminated in the successful release of the victims without harm.
According to him, “the operation was carried out in line with the directive of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and was executed through intense intelligence-driven engagements by the Office of the National Security Adviser in collaboration with relevant security agencies.”
“This rescue is the direct result of the clear directive of Mr President and the intensive operations conducted by the Office of the NSA alongside the DSS, the Nigerian Army, the Police, other security agencies, and our international partners. It is another landmark achievement, with all victims rescued unhurt,” Maj Gen. Alaka stated.
He further emphasised the crucial role played by the DSS and the Second Division of the Nigerian Army, emphasising that the guidance and strategic oversight of the Chief of Army Staff significantly contributed to the success of the operation.
Maj. Gen. Alaka reaffirmed the NSA’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property of the citizenry across the country, highlighting that the office is working closely with state governors and traditional rulers to design and implement robust security frameworks aimed at safeguarding local communities.
In his remarks, Niger State Governor, Rt. Jon. Mohammed Umaru Bago expressed profound gratitude to President Tinubu and the security agencies for the safe return of the children.
“I thank God for the safe return of these children. I am particularly happy that they will now celebrate Christmas at home with their families,” the governor declared.
