The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has reduced the pump price of premium motor spirit after Dangote Refinery and major depot operators cut their ex-depot prices.
Daily Post correspondent who went round filling stations across Abuja on Thursday found that the state-owned company has reviewed its pump price downwards to N930 per litre from the previous N945.
The adjustment has already taken effect at NNPCL outlets along Kubwa Expressway, in Gwarimpa, Wuse Zone 4, Zone 6 and other stations across the city and surrounding areas.
With the new rate, NNPCL has effectively reduced its retail fuel price by N10 per litre.
Daily Post also observed that several private stations have followed suit. Ranoil in Gwarimpa is now selling petrol at N935 per litre, down from N940 after a N5 reduction.
In the same trend, MRS and AP Ardova outlets across Abuja are dispensing petrol between N930 and N935.
The price cuts come on the heels of reductions by Dangote Refinery and depot operators including Pinnacle and Aiteo, who have slashed their ex-depot prices by at least N10 to N846, N845 and N844 per litre respectively as of Thursday morning.
Earlier, the spokesperson of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Chinedu Ukadike, told Daily Post that the ongoing competition in petrol pricing could lead to further reductions as the price war intensifies.
