President Bola Tinubu’s administration, through a delegation led by Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, has initiated discussions with authorities in the United Kingdom concerning the ongoing imprisonment of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu.
The talks aim to explore the possibility of transferring Ekweremadu back to Nigeria to complete the remainder of his prison sentence.
Upon arriving in the UK, the delegation held meetings with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Justice and is scheduled to engage with additional senior officials on the issue.
Confirming the development to Arise Television, the spokesman for the Foreign Affairs Minister, Alkasim AbdulKadir, said: “Consultations still ongoing with UK authorities on the matter.
“An appeal for prisoner exchange for him to serve the remainder of his term in Nigeria” was tabled before the United Kingdom authorities.
