Nigerian music superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has explained that Akwa Ibom was selected as the first Nigerian state to host his concert because of its world-class facilities and serene environment.
Speaking during a pre-concert reception in Uyo on Sunday, which was hosted by Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, and Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, Davido said the state stood out due to its infrastructure and potential. He noted that this would be his first live performance in Nigeria after 14 years on stage.
According to the award-winning artiste, everything about Akwa Ibom is “beautiful,” adding that if every state in the country possessed similar qualities, it would be easier for him to tour across Nigeria.
The singer praised Governor Eno for maintaining peace and security in the state and for creating opportunities that enable young people to thrive.
He said, “When we were looking around Africa, five places came, and Akwa Ibom was at the top of the list. A lot of people are flying from other states that don’t have this type of facility.
“I am excited, it is (the Akwa Ibom tour) is best of its kind. We toured America already, and it was a great success, and we were looking for a good facility around Africa, and Akwa Ibom is one of the places that we found out.
“You have a standard facility, that’s why we are starting here. As time goes, we will keep doing the other states and I am just excited the stadium is already filled up, so let’s get ready and shut it down.”
In his remarks, Senate President Akpabio commended Governor Eno for his visionary leadership and support for youth and sports development. He also applauded Davido for selecting Akwa Ibom as the starting point of his concert series, acknowledging his influence in mentoring young Nigerians through music.
Akpabio encouraged the music star to continue discovering and promoting young talents from Akwa Ibom as he tours internationally.
Governor Eno, while responding, thanked Davido for being a positive role model to Nigerian youths, describing his hard work and consistency as a source of motivation.
He said, “We want to thank you for being an inspiration to the younger generation. For me, you have taken your career to the zenith, and it is an inspiration to the youths that what they set their hand to do is possible and achievable.
“We are a youth-friendly state and we are trying to develop talents. Thank you for sharing the stage with some of our local entertainers, which is an inspiration to them that one day, they can also aspire to be like you,” Eno concluded.
