SSS Raises Alarm Over Planned ISWAP Attacks in Ondo

The State Security Service (SSS) has raised the alarm over an “imminent” attack on communities in Ondo State by the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists.

The security agency issued the alert in a memo dated October 20, 2025, addressed to the brigade commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery, Owena Cantonment, Akure.

“Intelligence confirmed plans by members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorist group to carry out coordinated attacks on communities in Ondo and Kogi States anytime soon,” the SSS memo, signed by Hi Kana of the Ondo State Directorate of Security, stated.

According to the memo, the targeted locations include the Eriti Akoko and Oyin Akoko communities in Akoko North West LGA, as well as Owo town in Owo LGA.

The SSS urged the military to intensify security measures in the state to thwart the attacks, noting that the terrorist groups “have commenced surveillance on potential soft targets in the above-mentioned locations.”

“It added, ‘Consequently, there is a need to scale up the level of security alertness in the various communities to forestall any untoward situation.’”

The alert comes three years after suspected ISWAP members carried out an attack on a Catholic church, resulting in the deaths of over 40 people.

Recent reports show that terrorists have expanded their operations into southern Nigeria, following more than a decade of killings and kidnappings in the North-East geopolitical zone.
