New Islamic Month: Sultanate Urges Nationwide Moon Sighting

The Sultanate Council in Sokoto has urged Muslims across Nigeria to look out for the new moon of Jumadal Ula 1447 AH on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, which falls on the 29th day of Rabi’ul Assani 1447 AH.

The announcement was made in a statement signed on Monday by Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto.

The statement read, “Muslims are encouraged to begin the search for the new moon on Tuesday evening and report any sighting to the nearest district or village head. Such reports should then be communicated to His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA).”

It added, “Muslims are therefore requested to start observing the new moon of Jumadal Ula 1447 AH on Tuesday and report any sighting to the nearest District or Village Head for onward communication to His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto.”

Professor Junaidu prayed for divine guidance in carrying out this important religious responsibility, saying, “May Allah (SWT) assist us in fulfilling this duty, amen.”
