The 21st Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) has officially announced its nominees, celebrating the very best of African cinema. Leading the nominations is Burkina Faso’s “Katanga: Dance of the Scorpions” with 10 nods, closely followed by Nigeria’s “Lisabi: The Uprising” with 7 nominations, highlighting the growing influence of Nigerian films on the continent.
The Best Film category features an impressive lineup including “Algiers,” “3 Cold Dishes,” “The Heart is a Muscle,” “Small Gods,” “For Love, For Land, For Power,” “Katanga: Dance of the Scorpions,” “Last Stop,” and “Lisabi: The Uprising.”
In the Best Director category, the nominees include Niyi Akinmolayan for “Lisabi: The Uprising,” Imran Hamdulay for “The Heart is a Muscle,” and Asurf Oluseyi for “3 Cold Dishes,” showcasing the visionary talents driving African cinema forward.
The acting categories are expected to be highly competitive, with talented actors and actresses from across the continent contending for top honours.
The 2025 AMAA winners will be revealed at the grand ceremony on November 9 at the Balmoral Convention Centre in Lagos, Nigeria.
