Billy Vigar, a 21-year-old forward for Chichester City and former Arsenal academy player, tragically passed away after sustaining a severe brain injury during an Isthmian League match against Wingate & Finchley. The incident occurred early in the match, leading to its abandonment.
Vigar was airlifted to the hospital and placed in an induced coma. Despite undergoing surgery, he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning.
Beginning his career at Arsenal’s academy in 2017, Vigar signed a professional contract in 2022. He had loan spells at Derby County and Eastbourne Borough before joining Hastings United and later Chichester City.
Arsenal paid tribute to Vigar, describing him as a versatile and determined player admired by coaches and teammates. Chichester City postponed their upcoming match in light of the tragedy.
