Gombe State has once again been recognised for excellence in fiscal transparency, securing second place nationwide with a remarkable score of 99 out of 100, according to the latest Subnational Transparency Assessment by BudgIT.
The assessment, which reviewed the fiscal practices of all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory for the second quarter of 2025, placed Gombe among the “Progressive Performers,” just behind Ekiti State, which scored slightly higher.
BudgIT attributed Gombe’s strong performance to the state’s “consistent dedication to transparency and accountability” in the implementation of policies and projects under Governor Muhammadu Yahaya. This recognition was highlighted in a statement from the state’s Director General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Misilli.
The state stood out for the timely publication of key fiscal documents, including its Approved Budget, Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), Citizens’ Budget, and Quarterly Budget Implementation Reports (BIRs). “The state also impressed with an up-to-date e-procurement portal and a functional website that provides citizens with easy access to financial information,” the report noted.
The achievement reflects Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s commitment to open governance, making transparency and accountability central to his administration. These efforts are fostering fiscal discipline while providing citizens with clear insights into how public funds are managed and allocated.
Misilli added, “In a country where fiscal secrecy often limits progress, Gombe State’s advancements set a benchmark for transparency and effective resource management. The state’s dedication to good governance is building public trust, attracting investment, and encouraging support from development partners.”
With strong results across multiple indicators, Gombe is poised to maintain its leadership in fiscal transparency and continue to serve as a model for governance reforms across Nigeria.
