Tragic End in Loaned Lexus
The comedy world was thrown into mourning on 2 September 2025 when rising skit maker Adetola Samad, better known as Sanku, lost his life in a car accident. The 2012 Lexus RX 350 he was driving plunged into a river along Ogbomoso Road in Oyo State. His death was confirmed in a post by actor Yemi Elesho on social media.
Guarantor Speaks on Car Deal
In the aftermath, content creator Folorunsho Olayinka, popularly called Finest, came forward to clarify the circumstances surrounding the vehicle. Finest, who acted as guarantor, disclosed that Sanku had bought the Lexus on credit and was still heavily indebted at the time of his death.
According to him, the SUV was valued at N25.4 million. A receipt issued by JJ Motors Empire and Services Limited on 5 June 2025 confirmed that only N7 million was paid at the point of collection, with the balance to be settled in instalments.
“I Was Only Helping Him”
Addressing rumours during a TikTok livestream, Finest insisted he played no role other than standing in as guarantor.
“He trusted me because the dealer knew me. I didn’t push him into the deal; he even asked me for a driver and I arranged one. He had paid N7 million initially and later added more instalments, totalling N12.28 million.
Tell me, what would I gain from harming someone who still owed over N13 million under my name? I didn’t even know the driver who was with him.
I kept his matters private, but I had to speak because fingers were pointed at me after his death. I still have the voice notes where he thanked me for supporting him. On the day of the accident, I sent my brothers and colleagues to the scene and later sent money for his hospital care when treatment was delayed.”
Friend Speaks on Car Swap
Amid the controversy, one of Sanku’s close friends — who asked not to be named — gave a different account. The source alleged that the comedian was being persuaded to return the Lexus and opt for a Nigerian-used Toyota Venza instead because of difficulties in meeting repayment terms. According to the source, about N2.3 million was still hanging on the car at the time.
