Nigeria’s track sensation, Tobi Amusan, has revealed what she describes as the key to her remarkable form at the ongoing Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships.
Amusan, who recently stormed through the semi-finals of the women’s 100m hurdles, credited her “breakthrough” to a bold training decision: joining the camp of legendary Jamaican coach Glenn Mills, famed for guiding sprint icons like Usain Bolt and Oblique Seville.
Speaking to reporters after her semi-final performance, Amusan said:
“Training is different… it’s been tough, but I trusted the reason I went there, and it all paid off. This performance is for them.”
The world record holder’s decision to work with Mills came after careful consideration and guidance from her longtime former coach, Lacena Golding-Clarke. According to Amusan, the move has sharpened her technique, boosted her confidence, and prepared her to challenge the best on the global stage.
Fans in Nigeria and beyond have been following her journey closely. Amusan ran a blistering 12.29 seconds in the semi-finals, placing her among the top contenders for the final.
While Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji claimed first place in the semi-final heat, Amusan’s smooth finish and explosive strides confirmed her readiness for the championship finale.
With the finals looming, Amusan says her focus is now entirely on executing what she has learned under Mills’ mentorship.
