This year, Time Out’s 2025 survey of thousands of residents around the world, enriched with expert insights, revealed the ultimate ranking of the top nightlife cities.

As the saying goes, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Yet, choosing the right city to unwind after a demanding day is not always easy.

In this article, Tribune Online takes a look at the 20 cities that made the list:

1. Las Vegas

Las Vegas sits at the top of the global nightlife chart, with 88 per cent of residents praising its after-dark scene. The city is known for its iconic strip of casinos and clubs, but locals also highlight its cocktail lounges and hidden speakeasies that cater to different moods.

2. Madrid

In Europe, Madrid claims the crown as the nightlife capital. Its tapas culture naturally blends into lively evenings, while neighbourhoods like Chueca and Malasaña thrive with bars, queer venues, and clubs that keep music going until dawn.

3. Paris

Paris is more than just romance and fine dining. The French capital is enjoying what can be described as a golden age of nightlife, with a mix of jazz clubs, EDM parties, and late-night cultural spots drawing crowds every evening.

4. Shanghai

Warsaw has steadily built a reputation for its thriving club scene. Locals point to underground bars, live music, and affordable late-night spots as key reasons it ranks among the best.

13. Bangkok

Bangkok remains one of Asia’s nightlife powerhouses. From rooftop bars overlooking the Chao Phraya River to night markets and all-night clubs, the city blends tradition with modernity in its evening culture.

14. Lagos

Nigeria’s cultural hub, Lagos, secures the 14th spot on the list. The city is renowned for its Afrobeat-inspired nightlife, underground raves, and vibrant club scene. About 79 per cent of locals commend its inclusivity and energy, reinforcing its reputation as one of Africa’s most exciting cities after dark.

Tribune Online reports that ‘Detty December’ festivities generated no less than $71.6 million in revenue last year, with the bulk of it coming from nightlife activities.

15. Cairo

Here is another African city that made the list: Cairo blends the old with the new, where modern cocktail lounges sit alongside traditional shisha cafés. Seventy-nine per cent of residents rate its nightlife as outstanding, while affordability remains one of its strongest appeals.

Riyadh is a surprise entrant, reflecting the rapid cultural changes in Saudi Arabia. New entertainment venues, concerts, and lounges are drawing young crowds and reshaping nightlife in the kingdom.

17. Amsterdam

Amsterdam continues to shine as a European nightlife hub, with its famous clubs, canalside bars, and festivals that attract visitors from all over the world.

Medellín ranks high for affordability, with 80 per cent of locals saying going out is budget-friendly. Its nightlife includes celebrity-owned clubs, salsa venues, and vibrant neighbourhoods that buzz until morning.

19. Marrakech

Marrakech is known for its rooftop lounges, luxury bars, and the blend of Moroccan tradition with modern nightlife. Seventy-two per cent of residents rate it highly, citing both safety and atmosphere.

20. Athens

Athens rounds off the list with a nightlife culture that balances ancient backdrops with modern energy. The Greek capital offers everything from bohemian bars in Exarcheia to rooftop clubs overlooking the Acropolis.
