The Presidency has said that governors and citizens of Enugu and Ebonyi States have acknowledged the impact of federal projects being executed under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
This was disclosed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a statement on Sunday following a three-day working tour of the two states by the National Communication Team, led by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
“Our first key takeaway was the unanimous acknowledgement by the governors and citizens that the Tinubu administration is actively executing various projects in both states, as in other parts of the country. It is reassuring to see that the South East, like other regions, has not been left behind, as President Tinubu has ensured equitable distribution of federal projects,” Onanuga said.
According to the Presidency, both Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi and Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu commended the level of federal interventions in their states, noting that such projects were unprecedented. Nwifuru described it as the most significant federal presence in Ebonyi since its creation in 1996.
In Enugu, the federal government highlighted key projects, including the establishment of an oncological centre for cancer treatment, ongoing works on the Enugu–Port Harcourt and Enugu–Onitsha Highways, the 9th Mile–Umulumgbe–Ukehe–Opi Junction reconstruction, and the Eke Obinagu Flyover in Emene. The Port Harcourt–Aba railway has also been completed and is operational.
Minister Idris disclosed that $3 billion had been approved for the completion of the 2,044km Eastern Rail Line, while $508 million was earmarked for the modernisation of Eastern Port infrastructure.
In Ebonyi, work is ongoing on the Calabar–Abuja Super Highway, while Governor Nwifuru is also embarking on state-led projects, including an ICT University in Oferekpe, new housing estates, and the Vanco Flyover with twin underground tunnels in Abakaliki, expected to be completed in 2026.
Onanuga said Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu, on his part, linked new projects in his state to increased federal revenue allocations following the removal of fuel subsidies and tax reforms by the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS.
According to the statement, the visit also featured a town hall meeting in Abakaliki and a courtesy call on the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, who provided updates on road and bridge projects nationwide.
Onanuga said the tour reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to equitable development across the country under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
