The Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), has appointed chairmen and members of eight boards, the Rivers State University Governing Council, to be chaired by former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Okey Wali, SAN.
Similar appointments were made for the boards of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, with a former Commissioner for Health in the State, Dr Sampson Parker, as Chairman, while Prof. Chizindu Alikor was retained as the Chief Medical Director.
Also, a former chairman of the Ikwerre Local Government Area, Dr Samuel Nwanosike, an ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, was appointed chairman of the board of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency, while Wokoma Amakiri was appointed managing director.
The appointments were contained in a Special Government Announcement issued on Wednesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Worika.
The statement partly reads, “His Excellency, Vice Admiral (retd.) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, CFR, the Administrator of Rivers State, has approved the appointment of the members of the following Boards:”
The others are the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Commission with
Samuel Ogeh as Chairman, the Rivers State Senior Secondary Education Board, now chaired by Tony Egwurugwu, and Rivers State Internal Revenue, with Israel Egbunefu as Chairman.
Similarly, a former Commissioner for Health, Prof. Princewill Chike, who served under Wike as Governor of the State, is now the Chairman of the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme, while Dr Vetty Agala remains the Executive Secretary.
The board of the Rivers State Microfinance Agency will now be chaired by Prof. Adolphus Toby, while five others were appointed as members.
“The newly appointed Board members will be sworn in by His Excellency, the Administrator of Rivers State,” the statement, which did not indicate the date for the inauguration, concluded.
